CircleCI laid off 17% of staff—approximately 102 employees—on December 7, 2022. CEO Jim Rose announced the cuts via company-wide email. The layoffs came just two weeks before CircleCI disclosed a major security breach that began around December 21, 2022. One affected employee noted on Hacker News that the cuts did not appear to be due to "current financial woes." The $1.7B-valued CI/CD company later conducted additional layoffs in August 2023 and January 2024, bringing total cuts to over 200 employees across three rounds.
