Sila Nanotechnologies opened the first gigawatt-hour-scale silicon anode manufacturing plant in the Western world in Moses Lake, Washington in 2024. The company's battery technology enables higher energy density with less material, supporting the transition to electric vehicles. Co-founder Gene Berdichevsky, who led development of Tesla's first lithium-ion battery system, has positioned Sila as a critical supplier for Mercedes-Benz (2022) and Panasonic (2023) to advance sustainable transportation.
Sila Nanotechnologies co-founder Gleb Yushin described CEO Gene Berdichevsky as "clearly much more interested in solving hard problems and building a company that would last for a century" and "above all, empathetic." Yushin noted it was "much more comfortable to go somewhere with a person who was not talking about profit or getting rich, but was thinking about building something big, and who was clearly showing care for the team." Berdichevsky has emphasized building a "culture of self-reliance" learned from his time as employee #7 at Tesla.
