In March 2025, Moskovitz announced his retirement as Asana CEO, causing stock to drop 25%. As part of cost-efficiency measures, management cut roughly 5% of the workforce in Q4, incurring $7M in restructuring charges. However, Moskovitz transitioned to Board Chair rather than departing entirely, maintaining majority ownership (53%+ stake). The restructuring was projected to expand non-GAAP operating margins by over 1,000 basis points in FY 2026. Dan Rogers succeeded him as CEO.

Through Coefficient Giving (formerly Open Philanthropy), Moskovitz and wife Cari Tuna have directed $4B+ in lifetime grants, with approximately $519 million committed to AI safety in 2024-2025 alone ($168M in 2024, $351M in 2025). They are widely described as the single largest private funders of AI safety research globally. Grantees include Anthropic, MIRI, Redwood Research, the Center for AI Safety, and the Center for Human-Compatible AI. In 2025, they issued an RFP committing $40M over five months to technical AI safety research across 21 areas.

Dustin Moskovitz was the largest Bay Area donor in the 2024 election cycle, contributing $51 million—primarily through the pro-Kamala Harris PAC Future Forward. FEC records show $50 million to Future Forward PAC, $929,600 to Harris Victory Fund, $413,000 to the DNC, and donations to nearly every state Democratic party. Moskovitz has vocally opposed Donald Trump in 2016, 2020, and 2024, and was the second-largest Democratic donor overall in 2024.
