In a June 2021 Bloomberg TV interview, Snowflake CEO Frank Slootman said companies should prioritize merit over diversity goals: "We're actually highly sympathetic to diversity but we just don't want that to override merit." He claimed other CEOs privately shared his views but feared public backlash. Critics called this a false dichotomy between merit and diversity.
