Matthew Prince

In 2024, Cloudflare launched AI Gateway and Workers AI to provide infrastructure for AI applications. Prince stated he was "proud of what we did to support causes even bigger than ourselves—helping to ensure cyber attacks did not play a role in impacting the outcome of the United States 2024 election." The company provided free security services to both presidential candidates and hundreds of government websites across more than half of US states, maintaining non-partisan commitment to democratic infrastructure.

In January 2024, Cloudflare faced backlash after employee Brittany Pietsch recorded and posted her firing to TikTok. The viral video showed HR representatives unable to explain why she was being let go despite her requests for specifics, saying only she "did not meet performance expectations." Prince responded on X calling the video "painful" to watch, admitted "we were far from perfect" and "managers should always be involved" rather than outsourcing to HR. He maintained the firing was justified but acknowledged the process was flawed.

After Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, Prince rejected Ukrainian Deputy PM Mykhailo Fedorov's call to cut off Russian internet access, arguing Russians deserve access to information about the war. Cloudflare continued operating in Russia while donating services to Ukrainian critical infrastructure. Prince stated: "It's very important for a deep infrastructure company like Cloudflare to be content neutral" while making exceptions for platforms inciting violence (Daily Stormer, 8chan, Kiwi Farms). Approach prioritizes information access over sanctions.
