BeReal laid off 28 employees just weeks after Voodoo acquired the company for €500 million in June 2024. The cuts affected nearly half the company's 60-person workforce, hitting iOS/Android engineers, backend engineers, QA, and marketing roles. COO Romain Salzman said layoffs were "mostly part of a refocus on France/Europe-based talents." CEO Alexis Barreyat was replaced by Wizz CEO Aymeric Roffé.

More on BeReal
See all →While BeReal laid off nearly half its workforce shortly after acquisition, COO Romain Salzman publicly acknowledged the departing staff's contributions, listing all 28 by name on LinkedIn and offering himself as a reference. Voodoo stated it would "support impacted team members" and is "incredibly grateful for their contributions." The quick post-acquisition layoffs contrast with typical merger timelines where cuts occur months later.
