Tonal unveiled Daily Lift in July 2025, an AI feature generating personalized daily strength workouts by analyzing recent workouts, performance metrics, fatigue levels, and fitness goals. The Tonal 2 camera analyzes 500 data points per second for real-time form correction. CPO Jonathan Shottan stated Daily Lift aims to replicate "what a top-tier personal trainer would do — automatically, daily and at scale." The platform has collected data from 175,000 members lifting 235 billion pounds, with AI algorithms creating custom plans from 240+ exercises.

Tonal cut 35% of its workforce (approximately 260 employees) in July 2022 after scaling from 110 pre-COVID to 750 employees. CEO Aly Orady cited macroeconomic climate and supply chain challenges, prioritizing profitability over growth. A second round of layoffs followed in January 2023, affecting data science, design, and engineering roles. The company offered 8 weeks severance, health benefits, and extended stock vesting. Tonal also shut down its LA studio.
