More on GIC
See all →GIC maintains investments in coal-reliant power utilities as part of its "transition" strategy rather than divesting from fossil fuels. In 2021, GIC invested in Duke Energy Indiana (DEI), a utility that relied largely on coal-fired power plants. GIC's stated position is that "blunt divestment" is not the answer, preferring to support companies transitioning away from coal. While DEI plans to retire coal by 2035, GIC continues to fund historically coal-dependent utilities during this extended transition period.
