Federal judge ruled in August 2024 that Google illegally maintained a monopoly in general search (90% market share on desktop, 95% on mobile) through exclusive default-search agreements with Apple and device makers worth ~$26B/year. In April 2025, a second ruling found Google also monopolized the publisher ad server and ad exchange markets. Final remedies issued December 2025 ban exclusive contracts and require sharing search index data with competitors; Google and DOJ both appealing.
